Current Gallery: blackandwhitefashion ( piece)
These were taken many years ago between the mid 80's & late 90's when I freelanced as a fashion photographer, & when fashion was my passion. Most of these images were shot on 35mm Ilford film(usually either 100 or 400 ASA) & processed using Agfa Rodinal fine grain film developer & printed on Ilford multigrade paper or sometimes Agfa paper which at times I prefered. Some of these sets were shot on my vintage Yashica-A 4x4 camera with light & exposure metered manually. The shot of Angie, was shot on 35mm Ilford 100ASA film, & processed while I was in the Army doing my 2 years national service at the time. The area where I was stationed at the time had it's water source come from a natural underground river. Using Agfa's Rodinal fine grain developer & pushing the envelope where the recommended push processing mix was 1:25, I mixed to 1:50 with my negative developing times being something ridiculous like 45 minutes to an hour. The results however was simply spectacular in the detail & tonal range that I could pull out of my negatives. The shot of Angie taken on 35mm was blown up to 1m x 2m & still had no visible grain with every thread clearly distinguishable in denims. These results I could only duplicate in Pretoria with what I believe was the natural chemical make-up of the underground water. Back home in Port Elizabeth I could never achieve the same or similar results. How I miss the old days of film. Miss those early days of film:)
