Monotypes and monoprints are made by transferring a image from a plate to paper with the use of pressure from a printing press, or by hand with a roller, or even a spoon. No change has been made to the plate except for the addition of ink, as opposed to Itaglio printing where the image is carved into the plate resulting in the printing of an engraved image. Monoprints are one of a kind. Intaglio plates may be used over and over with the same engraved image resulting.
